My Top Ten: Netflix Shows

Updated: Jan 26, 2021

If you've ever gone on Netflix, scrolled through for a few minutes and realized you have nothing to watch, this list is for you. These are my top ten Netflix shows to watch right now with a variety of genres to chose from. (Keep in mind that almost all of these shows aren't suited for children and are catered to adults instead.)

  1. Elite: (TV-MA) This drama is about three teenagers who end up getting a scholarship to a prestigious private school after their previous school collapses in an accident. The clash between them and the rest of the class ultimately leads to a murder which is unfolded as the show goes on. Although the show is originally in Spanish, there is English dubbing which is equally as good.

  2. The Queen's Gambit: (TV-MA) This drama miniseries takes place in mid-1950s and follows a girl named Beth Harmon through her quest to become the best chess player in the world. Although the description may not seem very enticing for a few people, it is a miniseries that will keep you wanting more.

  3. The Haunting of Bly Manor: (TV-MA) If you've ever seen The Haunting of Hill House series or are a sucker for all things horror/thriller, this show is for you. The show follows an au pair with a rough past as she dives into the haunting secrets of the Bly Manor.

  4. Money Heist: (TV-MA) Another show originally in Spanish but with English dubbing is one of my favorites on this list, Money Heist. This show follows a criminal mastermind and his group as they plan on pulling off the biggest heist in history. This crime-drama show will have you on the edge of your seat and rooting for different characters throughout the show.

  5. Criminal Minds: (TV-14) Although this is a classic most people may know, it is definitely worth the watch if you haven't seen it already. Unlike other crime shows, Criminal Minds does an amazing job at character growth as you get attached to the characters in the show.

  6. Bates Motel: (TV-MA) This drama series isn't for the faint heart and has some topics more sensitive to audiences than the other shows on this list. Nevertheless, it is a chilling story of a mother and her son who move to a new town in hopes of creating a better future, however, what they find is much worse than they intended. Disclaimer: Please make sure you are aware of the warning on this show as there are quite a few graphic scenes that can be triggering to certain people.

  7. Santa Clarita Diet: (TV-MA) Although I was pretty hesitant to watch this show as zombie shows can be very hit or miss, I decided to give it a shot and was pleasantly surprised. Even though it is a bit cheesy at times, it is the perfect balance between comedy and drama as it follows a married couple who's lives change in an instant when one of them goes through a drastic transformation.

  8. Arrested Development: (TV-MA) Going along with the comedy theme, Arrested Development is a sitcom about a wealthy family that lost everything leaving one son to try and mend what's left and keep his family together.

  9. American Horror Story: (TV-MA) Like Bates Motel, this show also deserves its own disclaimer as there are many themes that can be triggering to certain audiences. Regardless, this horror series is definitely worth the watch as it is one of my favorite shows of all time. Each season is a different setting with different characters and will keep you constantly at the edge of your seat for what happens next.

  10. Locke & Key: (TV-14) I stumbled on this show while I was bored one day and didn't expect much from what seemed like a kids show. However, as I kept watching it, I was proven wrong. This drama series, although new, paints the story of three siblings who move with their mom to their father's old estate after his tragic murder. As they explore the house they find a set of magical keys that unlock secrets of the house and their father's past.
